I've been a Software Developer professionally since 2009, but have been in and out of the coffee industry since 2007.
Formally a barista in Edinburgh during the Uni summer holidays, it was my first introduction to the complexity of coffee. In 2013 I emigrated to Sydney, where I was immersed in exceptional coffee and really experienced the "third wave" coffee culture. I was hooked, and before returning to the UK, I trained again as a certified barista.
Armed with the knowledge and science on how to make a good coffee, I started a new hobby roasting coffee. In 2018 I taught myself to roast 20g batches on a modified popcorn maker (yes...nerd!). Several fires and a lot of upgrades later, my obsession slowly grew into a small home micro roastery to help fuel friends and family.
I'm a big fan of single origin natural coffees and experimental fermentation methods – basically, I love crazy flavours in a coffee. I started Big Kid Coffee to share my favourite roasts with you all, in an eco friendly and sustainable way, I hope you enjoy it.
